Francis of Delirium Boston Concert reviews
This amazing event, combining the visual brilliance of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and the musical magic of John Williams, was simply put, incredible. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra did a very good job in their renditions of notable themes from the movie saga. With the help of lasers and scenes from the movies, it helped to engross the audience in this wonderful experience. Unfortunately, it greatly pained me to see that many audience members decided to bring young children to the event. These children, whom I would guess of ages 5 to 10, had no understanding of the momentous music and scenes depicted. It is not in reality such an event, while the event is designed to be family friendly. Those families who bring their children to such events ruin the special moment for those of the audience who are familiar with the saga that is Francis of Delirium. Those of us who grew up on the stories of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance understand and appreciate the uniqueness the music helped to bring the films; children of young ages just don't understand the intricacies of the performance. The event clearly shows why young children should not be brought to these events filled with a sense of history. In fact, I am reminded of the family who sat behind me, the parents were familiar with the subject matter but they brought their kids along who clearly had no patience nor understanding of the music being performed. The younger child complained quite loudly about when the performance was going to start (this was during the 20th Century Fox fanfare at the beginning of the show). The child would later fall asleep much to the incredulous dismay of his parents.
On a much brighter note, it was very nice to see Anthony Daniels perform as the host and narrator of the show, with voice-overs performed by James Earl Jones. Also, the use of lasers and light to help emphasize certain scenes was very entertaining as it draws the audience into the event. Other than the obnoxious parents and their young children, I would definitely recommend any fan of Star Wars to see this once in a lifetime event.
